Piecing together our history (Hunterdon County Democrat)- Topic: quilting patterns

CLINTON — A special exhibit of antique quilts opens in the Tomson Gallery at the Red Mill Museum Village on April 27 and will continue through Oct. Quilts from 1850-1930″ has gathered an array of colorful quilts that speak of local history and Clinton women’s handiwork, past and present. Co-curator Toby Preston of Kindred Quilts in Clinton has brought together a group of enthusiastic volunteer quilters to make mini-quilts inspired by the larger, older quilts. The quilts on view at the Red Mill are local Clinton quilts, made by everyday women for their families. The quilts in the show run the gamut from fanciful crazy quilts, wildly popular in the 1890s, to white-on-white Marseille work of the 1860s, log cabin quilts, nine-patch quilts, flying geese styles and more.
