Marathon project creates quilts for kids (The Yuma Sun)(quilting patterns)
The Linus Project held its second marathon sewing session at Dancemakers Studio this week, working on quilts to ease the pain of children under duress. It is an all-volunteer group that provides warmth and comfort with the quilts it produces for children traumatized by accidents, conflict or death in the family, according to Sandy Smith, chapter coordinator. Midway through the first day, Linus volunteers had already completed 250 quilts. But they need other materials to construct the quilts, so they are raising funds by raffling off a king-sized quilt they call the Opportunity Quilt. Dancemakers owner Cindy Turrentine donated the space for the Linus volunteers to produce the quilts, Smith said.
