Kalona has 38th annual quilt show (The Iowa City Press-Citizen)- About: quilting patterns
The Kalona Quilt Show at the Kalona Community Center is a showcase for 250 to 300 quilts. Two-thirds of the quilts on display are new, meaning they haven’t been part of the show before, and the rest are antique quilts, said Brenda Herington, store partner of the Woodin Wheel in Kalona, one of the event sponsors. People come from all over to view the quilts, including people from Texas, California and Utah who stopped Friday, Herington said. New quilts range in price from $500 to $11,000, while antique quilts cost between $300 and $5,000 this year, Herington said. Most of the antique quilts at this year’s show are pre-1940s, with the majority made around the turn of the century to the 1920s, she said.
