Bold quilts cover Speed Art Museum - Louisville Courier-Journal- About: quilting patterns
Get morning headlines, breaking news, afternoon business updates, weekend happenings and more sent to your inbox! Bold and eccentric quilts by 42 women spanning four generations make up an exhibition that has electrified the art quilt world. The 70 quilts, most created from salvaged and discarded fabrics and clothes, are improvisational rather than pattern-driven. Most were created when the town was largely isolated during the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, which makes the quilter’s innovated abstraction a matter of internal creativity rather than learned design.
