Seventh Heaven Quilt Shop is located in Alamo Heights at 6706 N. The current project is a challenge from American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine for quilt shops across America to make a million pillowcases. Seventh Heaven has answered this challenge by encouraging our friends to make 1,000 pillowcases this next year to be donated to three local Ronald McDonald Houses. Kits may be purchased for $10 at Seventh Heaven and turned in where they will be delivered to the local Ronald McDonald Houses. Other benefits Seventh Heaven sponsors include donations collected through âfine moneyâ through book club participants collected throughout the year.

Eventually, we found ourselves at the home of Shirley Rogers, who was eager to show us her handiwork and to donate bags of fabric for use in the Womenâs Re-entry Program quilting classes that Giambalvo facilitates. Rogers has been sewing for 45 years and the energy of her craft is clearly visible in her small sewing room that is overflowing with the abundance of her imagination. The quilt is done in the ornate Victorian crazy-quilt manner, with satin and velvet fabrics, overlays of lace, bits of embroidery snipped from vintage linens, or corners of lace-edged handkerchiefs appliqued on, fancy embroidery stitched over seam lines and other bits of ornate trim embellishing the piece. Rogers said she buys fabric at Mardenâs in Brewer and the Jo-Ann store in Bangor, and wool felt from a rug hooking supply shop in Searsport. Some ideas — the fate of the earth, abortion, gun control, the nature of God — aren’t going to be resolved in a reader forum, so no need to get frustrated if others don’t see your point of view.
