Topic: quilting patterns - Grubbs says quilting is a way to keep her hands busy (12:00 7-13-09) (The Danville Advocate-Messenger)

Helen Grubbs quilted stockings and wall hangings for The Speckled Egg Galleryâs Second Sunday Selects show. Grubbs said she doesn’t know exactly what made her choose The Speckled Egg Gallery to show her work in. For the “Christmas in July” gallery show, Grubbs made stockings and wall hangings with holiday scenes, including the three wise men and Santa Claus. The Speckled Egg Gallery offers Grubbs the chance to show and sell her work - there are only so many wall hangings or quilts that one family needs, she said. Grubbs’ mother and grandmother both quilted, but Grubbs said she learned most of what she knows about quilting from reading books. Grubbs said she can’t make everyone happy with her color choices - what one person likes, another person doesn’t - but that doesn’t bother Grubbs.
