quilting patterns - Hanover quilter heads to Nashville expo - The Evening Sun

Dawn Gerber, of Hanover, made this Baltimore album quilt. Gerber learned how to make the quilt from classes she took at the Quilt Patch in Littlestown. The quilt, mostly hand-sewn by Hanover resident Dawn Gerber, is one of 280 to be displayed at the American Quilt Society Quilt Expo and eligible for a Best of Show award cash prize of $10,000. She learned how to make the quilt from classes she took at the Quilt Patch in Littlestown. As an amateur, Gerber didn’t realize that the Baltimore album quilt was not exactly for beginners.

Gee's Bend quilters turn necessity into works of art - WBIR-TV(quilting patterns)

The quilters of Gee’s Bend create glorious works of art. But the Gee’s Bend quilts that are bringing museum-goers into the Knoxville Museum of Art, were never meant to be art. In some ways, the newspapers were an important point of contact with the outside world because in many cases, the quilters of Gee’s Bend were a very insulated community. Wicks said, “She felt the soul and spirit and labors and exp of her husband and the men who worked in the fields because she kept their clothing after they’d thrown it away and resurrected it in a way that paid tribute to their labors and their struggles.
