Quilter Susan Downs Schlegel shows a quilt off to Chris OâBrien, off camera, during the Quinobequin Quilters Guildâs 11th Spring Quilting Show, which was held this past weekend at the Masonic Lodge. The patterns on the quilts quickly catch the eye, with images of animals on several quilts, hypnotic patterns on others and vivid colors on most. Jane Evans of Great Plain Avenue said the show has 145 quilts from about 55 quilters, with 15 Massachusetts towns represented. Evans had several quilts at the show, including one called “A Rotation of Reptiles,” featuring frogs and lizards and a lot of tropical colors — a blue background with splashes of orange and green. Evans made the quilt as part of the guild’s summer challenge, in which members must incorporate a theme into their quilts — in this case, animals. One of the most imaginative quilts in the show was “Fall Leaves on an Old Screen Door” by Margaret Rolph of Walpole, which resembles a weather-beaten screen door covered with fall leaves. read more
