quilting patterns - Quilter's Quips - Latah Eagle

Each lady brought a personal project to work on, from quilt blocks to set together to new patterns to exchange. In the sharing time, Lynne Rains showed a set of fleece slippers in several sizes for which she had brought patterns to share. New member, Nancy Swanson showed how much she has progressed since she started her first quilt, just a few months ago by showing her first quilt and one she had just completed. After lunch, the group went to the local quilt shop, The Crazy Quilter, where Wendy helped members choose fabrics for the 2008 raffle quilt. read more

Topic: quilting patterns - AfriCOBRA now in Syracuse (Cnylink)

Jones-Henderson, who has an alert, steady gaze and a good handshake, was in Syracuse for the first of two Ford Foundation-sponsored artist-in-residence workshops for young people he’s teaching at the Community Folk Art Center (CFAC). Charles, CFAC’s managing director, said he’d be back before then too, for a group exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of the continuously active AfriCOBRA collective. Willets, CFAC’s academic director, helped bring Jones-Henderson’s exhibition, “Requiem for Our Fathers and Other Warriors,” here in 2006 for CFAC’s first gallery opening in the new building, a joint show with documentary photographer Marjory Wilkins. Donaldson died at age 71 in 2004, and several “Liberated Images” pieces commemorate him Murry DePillars’ “Lifting the Plate” and James Phillips’ “Flowers for Jeff. Harris have work in “Liberated Images,” that each readily agrees could function as ancestor shrines Henderson-Jones’ dwelling-like sculptures for Duke Ellington, June Jordan, the “3 Little Girls” (the 1963 Birmingham church bombing), and Harris’ “Survivor Patchwork,” which also employs a peaked roof form and, like other of his assemblages, arrangements of talisman-like objects that Harris photographs. read more

quilting patterns - At quilter's weekend, birthday quilts for the 'Burgh - Pittsburgh Post Gazette

Some folks have a head start, and they’ll be showing off their history quilt projects Saturday and Sunday at the Senator John Heinz History Center’s Quilter’s Weekend. By drawing in crayon on muslin or piecing other fabrics, children will be able to create their own quilt blocks for inclusion in the History Center’s 250th birthday quilt. Adult quilters are joining in, too, said the center’s Terri Blanchette, who organized the Quilter’s Weekend. Several quilt guilds and quilt stores will be represented, demonstrating quilting techniques and the latest sewing machines. read more
